Sparks Ideas Videos

If you haven’t yet watched this year’s Sparks Ideas videos, I urge you to go check them out.  (If you haven’t watched past years, I urge you to watch those, too!)

This year’s theme was “Things or People That Have Inspired You”.  And not to get all Buzzfeed about it, but “You Won’t Believe What This Woman Said Inspired Her!”.  I hope you’ll watch, and enjoy, my slightly embarrassing, but hopefully inspiring 6-minute talk on what inspired me.

And THANK YOU to the people at IBM ConnectED who came up to me after (and throughout the week) to talk about my topic.  THAT is why we have the sparks session for people to share and connect and learn more about each other and feel inspired.

Here is the blog post and link to this year’s videos:  http://nerdgirlsgroup.com/2015/02/03/sparks-ideas-video-connected-2015/

Speaking at IBM ConnectED 2015

I am excited to announce that I’ll be speaking at IBM Connected 2015 with the amazing Julian Robichaux.  The session preview tool is now available here.  We will be presenting:

BP107: Ten Lines Or Less: Interesting Things You Can Do In Java With Minimal Code

Don’t be afraid of Java! Many IBM Notes/Domino developers, both new and seasoned have an irrational fear of learning and using Java because it seems overwhelming. We’ll help you over this stumbling block with several short, understandable, and useful examples of Java that you can learn from. All of the examples will be ten lines of code or less, making them approachable and easy to understand. And we will show you how to integrate the Java code with an XPages application so you can get started right away.

Hope to see you there!

Great Sessions at IBM Connect 2014

Lots to see and do at IBM Connect 2014.  There was no way I could possibly see and do it all.  I tried my best to attend sessions that were important to me, and as usual, I still couldn’t see them all, but what I saw was great and always motivates me to learn even more.

This year, I attended a few stand out sessions (no one get upset if I don’t mention YOUR session; remember, I couldn’t attend them all!).

Email is Dead – Long Live Email

We’ve been hearing it for a while, “email is dead”.  Well, apparently, email is what’s next.  IBM Mail Next, that is.  In a flurry of quick announcements at the end of the IBM Connect 2014 Opening General Session, we learned that whatever we are currently calling mail in IBM Lotus Notes and Domino Collaboration Services – Social Edition Mail (not an actual product name) will now be IBM Mail Next.

Improving Domino Designer

IBM Connect 2014 Roundup

I’m back from my annual trip to Orlando for IBM Connect (formerly Lotusphere).  This year, like all the others before it, I returned home exhausted, worn out, full of knowledge and motivation.  Lots of questions and rumors floated around before the conference.  Would it be the same as years past?  Would there be enough technical content?  Would Kenexa take over and make it an entirely new conference?  So here is my take on what was the same, what was different, the good and the bad of IBM Connect 2014.

Article: IBM Connect! It’s Here It’s Here

It’s January, and that means Connect!  Check out my article in SocialBizUg.org on the latest for Connect.

Here is the official site, with lots of new things happening.

Here is the agenda.

Scott Adams, creator of Dilbert, has been announced as speaking at Connect on Tuesday.  He will be speaking at the 8AM Opening General Session.  It looks like this year, there will be an Opening General Session on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  (Is it still “Opening” if it’s in the middle of the conference?).
