I’m surprised I remembered how to log in

Of course I did.  Thanks to 1Password, but that’s another post for another day.

June 14 I blogged about P90X, day 1.  I think I did a week’s worth, then got derailed (by a lovely vacation).  Then I restarted and did about two weeks worth before getting derailed, again by travel.  So I started back up again a few days ago.  I am THRILLED to report that I was able to pick up where I left off regarding reps and weights (bands).  I am also thrilled to say I somehow managed to not gain any weight back.

Interestingly (and I may sound like a broken record), the eating part was the hardest part.  Eating 1800+ calories, with 50% of the calories coming from protein is hard.  That is a lot of meat.  A LOT of meat.  And a lot of LEAN meat.  I can’t just sit here eating bacon.

So anyway.  I swear some non-exercise/meat/running posts are on their way.  Someday.  Soon.  Ish.

Tomorrow is my mulligan

So tomorrow is my mulligan.  I’ll be starting over with the P90X program.  The first week and half were amazing, I was already seeing results.  Then I went on a vacation to the Caribbean.

The food the first week and a half was tough for me.  I am INCREDIBLY used to watching my food.  I was NOT used to eating that many calories with so much of it coming from protein.  I wasn’t prepared for that, so my do-over included going shopping today to stock up on foods that will help me get the protein in.

The exercise the first week and a half was tough, too, of course, but in a good way.  It was hard, and I pushed, and I did it.

Then vacation.  I rarely go on true vacations, and this was one.  It was gorgeous, the food was great, the company was amazing.  I brought my DVDs (ripped to my Mac) and my weight bands and the best of intentions.  Unfortunately, I only got in one yoga session.  It was however, amazing, as I did it on the private rooftop deck overlooking the ocean.

Yes, that big black square is my Mac.

So anyway, tomorrow is my Mulligan.  I start the program over.  With a little more preparation for the eating part of the program.  And for better or worse, a little more knowledge of just how tough the exercise portion will be.

(BTW, I did run everyday, the streak is still in tact).

Day 1 of P90X

I better type this quickly before my arms completely freeze up into an immoveable mass.

Yeah, so today was Day 1 of P90X.  A little background first though.  As many of you know, I run.  Not a lot, but every day.  As many of you may not know, over the last month I have tried to lose weight.  I went old/new school.  Counting calories.  In by way of food and myfitnesspal’s calorie counting app.  And out, by way of exercise and the Nike Fuelband.  Yay me I lost 10 pounds.

It seems my entire life has been spent gaining weight or losing weight or thinking about gaining or losing weight.  I used to even be a leader for Weight Watchers.  I know a thing or two about diet and exercise.

Anyhoo, enter P90X.  I got my materials yesterday.  Hooray!  Read, read, read.  Whaaaa?!  I’m supposed to eat 2400 calories?  2400?!  Read again.  Surely I’ve made a mistake.  2400?  As in double what I’ve been eating?  Holy crap that is going to be one motherf-er of a workout if I need to eat that many calories.  Woohoo!  Party time!  2400 calories.  Wait, what?  It’s supposed to be HOW MUCH protein?  And so, day 1 was sort of a failure as far as following the nutrition plan.  It is going to be really hard to eat that many calories, with the majority of it coming from protein.  I would have to eat an entire cow.  In a day.

But exercise, was in my book, a ringing success.  Did I do all the reps that the 2% body fat freaks on the video did?  No.  But did I at least attempt every single exercise and do it to “failure” (that’s a good thing in exercise terms)?  Yes, yes I did.

So here we go.  I’ll be in traction tomorrow.  But I did Day 1, baby!

To Blog or Not To Blog

So, I’ve decided to start P90X.  Not sure if I’ve gone insane or if this is a great idea.  I suppose only time will tell.  Probably about 90 days.

I’m a big fan of “go big or go home” or “all in” mentalities. I’ve found quite a few blogs where people started the P90X program, and then ultimately their blog posts died off.  That might lead some to NOT blog about starting the program.  But this is me talking, and I’ve got to do this the only way I know how, publicly.

Thanks to Amazon Prime, the kit should be here on Wednesday.  I’m not sure I’ve ever been this excited to begin an exercise program.  We’ll see how I feel a few days in.  : – )

Some believe nothing quite motivates like public humiliation, so I’m going to post my pre-P90X fitness test results. Yes, they have a test so you can see if you’re fit enough to even start the program.  Here are my humiliating results:

Pull ups: 0
Vertical leap: 12.5″
Pushups: 11
Toe touch: +8
Wall squat: 49 seconds (60 seconds was the minimum, but oh well)
Abs: 21 (25 was minimum, oops)
Heart rate after 2 min jumping jacks: 124
Heart rate after 4 min recovery: 76

I may even get brave and post pictures, but don’t hold your breath.
