Realization

Category Personal
I've always believed in "no regrets".

What that has meant to me is not regretting your choices in life. Whatever the choice you made, your life could have been better or worse, since you will never know, there is no sense in regretting it. Every choice I have made in my life has led to me where I am now. For example, I would never change, or wish to change, a choice that would mean I don't have my two beautiful children. So, I have no regrets.

The realization that I came to, is that there is another side to "no regrets" and that is actively making decisions. Do I do this or don't I? Do I do it now or wait til "a better time"? Which choice might leave you wishing that you had done it differently? I've found that my own life experiences (YMMV) have shown that doing it or doing it now, even if they were poor choices, left me with no regrets. I tried, I took a chance. It has always turned out better than being afraid.

Happy New Year

Category Personal
I wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year!

I was randomly talking with someone a couple of weeks ago about the "holiday" (interpret as you will) most celebrated around the world. I said New Year's, since it is not based on any one religion. My google search was inconclusive.

Anyway, whether you see it as a special day, or just one more on the calendar, I hope 2010 brings you all that you want and more.

And for those of you who have seen "The Princess and the Frog", I hope 2010 brings you all that you NEED and more.

Weekend in Paradise

Category Vacation Personal
As many of you know, I spent last weekend in Anguilla. It was an amazing, incredible, life changing experience. It was indescribable. Really. I've tried. And since I can't accurately describe what I felt and what happened, I'm including a link to some of the photos. A picture paints a thousand words, right?

I tried to provide a little "story" with the titles and the order of the pictures. They make me smile everytime I view them.

Enjoy!

Oops - An Update

Category Blog Personal
Oops. It occurred to me today that tomorrow will mark three weeks without a blog post. Hmm, where has the time gone? Will anyone notice? :)

I've been busy, with life and work and stuff. I also seem to be stuck in the mode of "Is this topic article-worthy or blog-worthy?", which has led me to do nothing. And I went away on vacation. We took the family to Disney World. Which isn't exactly relaxing. Fun, but exhausting. A few days ago, I passed the 160th day of daily running. Yes, I ran at Disney World. Crazy, I know.

A side note (well, really, this whole post is a side note, but whatever), it always amuses me to be at Disney World. Jan 08 and Jan 09, I was at Disney World for Lotusphere, which is a VERY different experience from when I was there Feb 06, Feb 08 and just a couple of weeks ago with my family. It is a strange feeling to be in the same place with such different scenarios.

Anyway, just wanted to give a quick update and say (commit) I will be posting something of value soon!

Help me find new music!

Category Music Personal
[Originally posted on my prior blog]

So I’ve realized that since I’ve had an ipod, I rarely listen to the radio, which means I don’t really hear new music. I put my CDs on my ipod and I listen to them. I don't hear any new music. The only new music I buy is new music from the artists I already listen to. Occasionally, the iTunes store makes a recommendation that I might try out, but not usually.

Oddly, I don’t listen to music while I run, but I do listen to music at work. It does not have to be work appropriate. :)

So, what new music should I be listening to?

My music taste is all over the place. Really. On my ipod right now, in the order they appeared on shuffle…

No Doubt
The Police
U2
Cake
Marvin Gaye – seriously, is there anything funnier than listening to your ipod at work and hearing the first few bars of “Let’s Get It On”?
Tenacious D – always makes me laugh
Bruce Springsteen
Weezer
Bob Marley
Dave Matthews
Eagles
Kid Rock
Simon & Garfunkel
Stevie Wonder
Wham!
INXS
Sheryl Crow
Daughtry
Live

Like I said, all over the place. Given that, got any suggestions?

Although not new, I noticed the boys from Genesis were, for some "unknown reason" not on your list. They are only the greatest band ever! LOL Perhaps they fall into a guilty pleasure but Genesis, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Mike & The Mechanics AND the guy who replaced Phil in the late 90's Ray Wilson. Ray has some solo stuff that's pretty good. Goodbye Baby Blue is a good track.
As for some new stuff, Train, Pat Monahan (solo album of Train's lead singer), The Fray and Colin Hay (former lead singer of Men at Work) have been heavy on my iPod recently. March 25, 2009 12:22 PM

@Tim - Well, I couldn't list EVERYTHING on my ipod. There is some Genesis, Peter Gabriel, and Mike & The Mechanics.
@JYR - great list. I have some of those, and don't have others! I will have to check them out. I have Live doing Walk the Line, does that count? :)

David Grey was brought to my attention today - folksy, whimsical and powerful lyrics.

Also, if you like good grooving electric guitar, you can't beat Greg Hoey with his Hawaii 5-0 and Linus and Lucy covers.

last.fm (website)
Just plug in the name of an artist you like and it will play similar artists. I discovered Amy Macdonald that way.
