Running at Lotusphere

So sadly, @RunningNotes was a miserable failure. I still like the idea, so am hoping we can try again at some future conference. It really is fun and motivating to run with other people, and to know that they'll be out there waiting for you!

Even though we didn't meet up as a group, I still managed to run every day. Without the streak, I never would have run every day. I might not have run at all, it would have been too easy to keep telling myself “I'll run tomorrow”. On the one hand, without the streak I wouldn't have been motivated to run. On the other hand, I was definitely cursing the streak a few of those days, and could have used more sleep.

Oh well, it's Lotusphere, who needs sleep, right?

1 - I managed to get out every day too, but only at stupid early hours (6am for example).

Mind you I spoke with Mac at sphere about organising a 5k next year (something you thought of for this year). How about you, me and him get together later in the year and plan ahead?

2 - It was great running with my room buddy each morning and with Mr Mooney one morning. I just wish I'd known about this before the sphere, so I could have been more involved. I think the trick is to have run leaders who agree to meet at certain times. e.g. 6am, 6:30am, 7am and then at 4pm, 5pm. They don't have to be great runners, but just to be there to meet everyone. I'd certainly be up for a 6am slot at any conference I'm at in future. Emoticon

3 - @1 - Paul that would be great! I know a lot of people showed interest in something like an organized run.

@2 - You're right Tim, agreeing ahead of the time is the key. That's how we did it at IAMLUG and it was great. We were supposed to meet at 7AM this time, but my fault entirely that I never made it. Also, I think Lotusphere is a bit tougher since not everyone is staying in the same location.

4 - Kathy, I found your blog on PlanetLotus. I am too a runner (somewhat) and developer. I leave in Saratoga Springs, NY so warm weather is appreciated when I get it. I will watch next year for Running At Lotusphere. Great idea!! I think doing the loop around the boardwalk is somewhat boring after the first time around.

6 - I think a 5K is a great idea -- particularly if all the competitors are required to wear their black and yellow backpacks... I have a short Lotusphere loop around the outer edges of the Swan and Dolphin passing through the tunnel behind the Yacht and Beach Clubs. That's about 2.3 miles. Add a Boardwalk loop and a jaunt down the canal to Hollywood Studios for a bit more distance. It's a shame that DisneyWorld isn't really very runner friendly.
